TAD Paper

TAD Paper (Through Air Drying Paper) is a high-end tissue product manufactured using advanced through air drying technology (TAD). TAD paper can save fiber because the paper is larger and the basis weight of the paper can be reduced. TAD PAPER is often used to produce high-quality facial tissue, toilet paper and kitchen paper, providing ultimate comfort and cleaning effect.

Difference from wet pressed tissue

The improvement of product bulk and water absorption makes TAD paper production particularly suitable for roll tissue products such as toilet paper and paper towels. Compared with wet pressed tissue, higher bulk can produce rolls with large diameter, less fiber and stronger; higher water absorption makes the product more popular because water absorption is a key characteristic of toilet paper and paper towels.

Fiber Selection

The production system for TAD paper begins with fiber selection and pulping in a similar manner to wet-pressed tissue machines. TAD paper uses both secondary and virgin fibers. For high-quality consumer tissue products, 100% virgin fiber is typically used, and the tissue machine formers typically have layering capabilities so that hardwood fibers (eucalyptus) are placed in the outer layers (the finished product facing the consumer). The inner layers include softwood fibers for added strength, and for the highest quality products, northern softwood kraft pulp, such as spruce, is typically used.

To increase paper strength, TAD paper products typically contain dry strength additives rather than refined fibers. This is the preferred method of adding strength because refining increases the fiber's tendency to retain water, making dewatering operations less efficient and more expensive.
